Sustainable Energy Savings

There is now a clear wish in many households across Marshfield to take steps to protect their and their children’s future by responding to the Climate Emergency declared by our South Gloucestershire Council. This section aims to provide suggestions on good practice in improving the efficiency of energy use in the home, for example by improving insulation, elimination of draughts, use of low energy lighting, etc. It will also aim to alert Marshfield when relevant domestic grants are announced as part of the Government’s national initiatives to encourage a reduction in overall demand for energy and a move towards sustainable green energy.

The new MCLT affordable homes soon to be under construction in Marshfield will provide a good example of the latest good practice in this area.

Retrofitting Marshfield’s housing stock to the insulation standards required for sustainable heating is a real challenge but isn’t impossible. Working with experts in the area Bill Gething presented a talk on Wednesday 24th April and held an exhibition in Marshfield Community Centre on Saturday 27th April. See the exhibition boards from April 2024 and the slides from Bill Gething’s talk.

The Energy Working Group has compiled a list of links to relevant government and professional advisory web sites, and links to potential domestic grants. This list will be updated regularly.
